Clarence Herbert "Herb" McDowell
Herb was born 21 March 1926 in
Lethbridge, AB. His parents homesteaded in Smith, AB area shortly after Herb
was born. The family later moved back east to Timmons, Ontario, where Herb
started his mining career. He worked in Port Radium, NWT as well, before
joining Eldorado Nucleur in 1953. In 1954, he brought his new bride Mary to
Eldorado, where their 4 children, Phillip, Debra, Donald and Donna were born.
In 1966, Herb felt it was in the best interest of his family they move south so
he accepted a position with Craigmont Mines in Merritt, BC. After another move
to Kelowna, Herb worked at King Resources Mine in Revelstoke and for DeKalb Mine
at Logan Lake, BC. In 1983 Herb retired finally from mining. He was a pillar
of health until about 1 year before his death on November 4, 2005. As so many
that worked in Uranium mines was to succumb to lung cancer. Mary still lives in
Kelowna.
