Francis Robert Mercredi
April 20, 1910 - May 31, 1986
Francis worked at the Uranium City bakery in the early 1950s prior to working as a bull cook at Eldorado Mine. He and his family lived on the hill at Martin Lake near the SGA float base (Saskatchewan Government Airways). He enjoyed many years of friendships in U.C. and could be usually found playing rounds of pool at the pool hall. He was a very skilled carpenter and helped to build many of the buildings in U.C. He was a resourceful Metis and provided well for his family.
After leaving Uranium City in 1959, Francis moved to the NWT to work as a cook in many of its gold mines. He retired in Edmonton in the 1970s. Francis died of lung cancer in 1986 at the Charles Camsell Hospital. He is survived by his loving family -- daughters Angeline and Nora, and son Phil.
